Amtex plans plug-n-play offices near Chennai
Chennai : The US-based Amtex Systems has found a novel way to attract international clients planning an offshore development centre (ODC) in India. The company is setting up a disaster recovery and management facility outside Chennai for global companies, at a cost of Rs 100 crore. With this, Amtex is venturing into IT infrastructure by providing end-to-end facility management services, he said. The proposed facility coming up on the Old Mahabalipuram Road.

Amtex Systems to expand its operations
Chennai : Amtex Systems Inc., an information technology consulting and services company headquartered in Wall Street, is expanding its presence in Chennai by setting up an offshore development centre (ODC) on the IT corridor here. The ODC would come up in a phased manner and see an investment of about Rs. 100 crore over a three-year timeframe, said Sunny Pokala, President of Amtex Systems. In an interaction with The Hindu, Mr. Pokala said the funds for the construction of the ODC would come through internal generation. He expected the upcoming ODC to house 2,000 people by mid-2007. The first phase would go on stream by the middle of next year with a head count of around 1,000, he added. Of the total investment, 30 per cent would go to putting up the campus, another 30 per cent to bring in high-end software and hardware and the balance to human resources, he said. "We are an onsite company coming offsite,'' Mr. Pokala said. The ODC was conceived to bring about cost efficiency and scalability, he added. "It will serve as a seamless extension of information system facilities for customers,'' he said.The $50 million revenue company is engaged in business consulting and project management space with particular focus on BFSI (banking and financial services industry) segment.Amtex has already a presence in Chennai through a testing centre housing 300 people.Mr. Pokala said Amtex saw huge opportunities in the testing arena. Since Amtex was working closely with clients on the business solution and project management sides, it was advantageously positioned to do the role of a functional tester what with its expertise in domain knowledge. "We will tap this niche market,'' he added. Amtex Systems was founded in 1997 by Mr. Pokala, a technocrat-entrepreneur. Today, the company has 12 offices across six countries.

Chennai : Amtex Systems Inc, a US-based IT consulting and services company, is setting up a development centre in Chennai. The new facility will employ over 350 people and increase it to 1,000 over the next two years. The company plans to invest more than Rs 100 crore over the next two years in India, says a company press release. Amtex consults and services leading companies, including Fortune 500 companies such as JP Morgan, Pfizer, Intel, IBM, Johnson & Johnson and Merrill Lynch. It employs more than 1500 IT professionals globally and has 12 offices operating across six countries, earning revenues of over $100 million in the current fiscal, the release says.
